ATS's Committment
to Quality Education

ATS is committed to providing quality tertiary education in a safe, secure and academically conducive and supportive environment. At ATS, the welfare of the student is of paramount importance and listed below are some of the measures that will be implemented to ensure that students are given the highest quality education.

Guest Lecturers

There will be guest lecturers for all courses offered at the Academy. These lecturers will be experts in their particular fields with a wealth of practical experience. Foreign examiners often lament students' inability to apply principles to a given factual matrix. This is evidenced in low scores on the test papers.

Even further, many students with high test scores fail to impress employers due to the students' failure to translate information gained at the academic level to its implementation in the practical arena.

The frequent use of common local examples is a tool that will enable students to make the necessary transition and thus all stakeholders would benefit from the knowledge gained by those who are successful in their respective programme of study.

In-house and "on-the-job" Training

Distance education has the significant advantage of allowing students to pursue degrees whilst also maintaining their jobs. In the circumstances ATS will seek to partner itself with members of the private sector who are interested in developing a relationship with the Academy.

Such an ambitious initiative would ensure the highest level of performance from students as their placement in the workplace will be extremely competitive and based on their academic achievements.

Student Assessment programme (SAP)

An internal assessment examination will be mandatory for all programme so that each student will have on file a means of assessing his/ her progress. One purpose for GATE is to encourage, facilitate, support and enable students to fulfil their academic pursuits. The SAP provides a system of accountability for the GATE provider while at the same time placing an onus on the student to address his/ her academic ambitions in a serious manner.

Guidance Counsellor

It is recognised that students encounter challenges that directly or indirectly affect their ability to study. ATS will provide a counselling service for students. The counsellors attached to ATS are persons who have the requisite training and experience. The ATS counsellors will act in conformity with the principles and guidelines of those persons who offer similar services in Secondary schools. It must be noted that whilst mature students form part of the ATS student body, there is a significant number of young persons who will be pursuing degrees and who would have just graduated from the secondary level.

Students' Guild

There will be a Student Guild which will form an important organ in the operation of ATS. The Guild will represent the interest of all students and will be the necessary conduit between the student body and the ATS administration. It is emphasised that distance learning centres and tertiary institutes must aim as best as possible to provide students with as many fora, facilities and amenities available at a university campus.

A student guild is a necessary forum for any institution committed to ensuring the provision of the best educational environment.
